And you thought this was just a Happy Gilmore fantasy….
Well, other than the ‘stabbing’ part.

New Years Accomplishment Wish-List…Part 1

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007

So I’m not really good at making resolutions, so I figured I’d make a list of accomplishments I’d like to realize this year.
Some could probably be considered resolutions, but hey, if I don’t deem them as such, I can’t say that I failed to stick to them. :)

1. Lose Weight: I don’t consider myself overweight, and I am in no means overweight when considering my age/height, however, I’m above my target weight. I feel like I’ve eat too much and am not as active as I’d like to be. Here is my plan: Purchase a stationary bike, play Hockey, quit laying around after work.

2. Get back into shape: You’d think that this would fit under No1, but to me, it doesn’t. It might certainly be a result of No1, but I could easily lose weight without increasing my stamina and energy level.

3. Get my General License: Now that the FCC has dropped the Morse Code requirement for all Amateur Radio classes, I have no excuse. I just need to hunker down and study. It really only gains me HF privileges and I don’t have an HF radio, but I would still like to do it.

4. Catch up on new/old Technology: This is pretty much a requirement of my job, but I’ve been doing a lousy job of it lately. I get so busy at work that I don’t have time to read/research/poke around with new technology. And once I get home, I don’t feel like it. I got a few good books for Christmas and need to set aside some time to read them. I also need to read up on a few of the things we’re going to be implementing at work.

5. Cook More: I can do it. I’ve got the tools. I just need to make myself cook. Too many microwave dinners, too much eating out, too many pizzas.

6. Save for a Down Payment: I kinda started this in August but I need to work a little harder at it. A buddy of mine moved in December, seeing his house and helping him move/rearrange made me jealous. I want the flexibility of a house, and I want to start gaining equity. And I want a garage. :)

7. Do something Racy: (Its not what you think Mom) I often say I own a street legal Race Car. And I do. But what have I done with it? Nothing. I want to autocross, or rally or something. Maybe even just go to a performance driving school.

This is the end of Part 1. If/when I think of more, I’ll add a Part 2.

Football and running

Monday, October 2nd, 2006

Suprisingly good weekend for Illinois Football. Illinois beat Mich St, 23-20, and Chicago is 4-0. !!

Other than that, good weekend.
Hockey, sleep, downtown Urbana, Weiner Roast, sleep, Test time (software upgrades), church, Formula One, Bennigans (in Decatur), TV, sleep.

All around good weekend.

1.27 Miles

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

Today I began my routine.
From 6:15-??? I will run.
Starting with a 5 minute walk for a warmup followed by running as long as I can run, then another 5 minute walk, then another 5 minutes of running then 2 minutes of walking to cool down.
This routine will change as I increase my endurance.
Every morning with the exception of weekends and possibly days when I’m at work at 5:30.
When I don’t run in the morning, I will run in the afternoon.

This is a bid to get myself back into the shape I was one year ago. Hockey shape.

Hurray

The NBA season started….now I get to watch basketball in HD….
Whoopity frickin’ dah. I HATE THE NBA.

Way to go ESPN, cut Hockey and pick up the second crappiest sport on TV. Thanks.

I have a feeling I’ll be doing a lot of things that aren’t TV over the next several months.

fun.

Harden takes the puck, its a break away!!!
He’s all alone. Him and the goaltender.
He dekes right, no wait, at the last second he cuts to the left.
The goalie lunges, Harden takes a diving back hand…..
GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Harden goes down hard. His feet were taken out from under him.

He gets to his feet, favoring the right arm. He looks okay though.
………
We’ve just received word that Harden will not be returning to the game.
His left elbow is sore and he cannot hold a stick.
………
………
………
So I wait until the game is over and drive home. Still not really hurting.
I put it under cold water. It feels kinda funny.
I take it out of the water. I can’t extend it past 135degrees from the shoulder.
Elbow is swelling to a decent size.
I think its dislocated. I call Josh to have him take me to the ER.
I call G&G and Mom&Terry to let them know.
I get to the ER….and wait…they do stupid paperwork crap.
Finally get an x-ray….and I wait.
The doc comes in……its broken.
I have a hairline crack in the distal side of my right radius.
He likened the injury to pressing the eraser side of a pencil down on a table hard enough for it to crack slightly behind the metal part of the eraser.
It is very minor and will heal well…but will take some time.
Two to six weeks to be exact.
I left with a sling and no pain-killers…which is fine since it really doesn’t hurt all that bad.
Though I kind of expect it to hurt more in the morning.

I’m done for now….my left arm is sore from doing all of the typing….
MAYBE I can get some sleep tonight.

Hockey Sticks

Monday, October 3rd, 2005

I picked up a new stick and blade from Wild Country on Saturday.
I picked the stick/blade with a more agressive curve and harder compound.
I found myself missing right when taking shots. I figure this is due to my wood sticks gripping the ground more and causing me to lose the end of the blade. Kind of like leaving your club head open when playing golf.

Next game is Tuesday at 1900. We’ll see how it goes. I guess I’m officially on the team since I have a team shirt.
Hopefully I can get done and still make it to Jillians for pool.

Sore

Thursday, September 22nd, 2005

So I went to the rink on Stadium to skate around a little bit and shoot the puck a little.
Little did I know, there is an intramural league that plays there.

One team was short a player so they asked me to play.
Of course I obliged.

I played pretty hard for the better part of an hour. 4 on 4 with a goalie and ball.

My back is a little sore, and my left elbow got knocked somewhere.
We went down by 2 quick. Then got one back, then another. They then scored again.
We tied it up. They scored with 3 minutes left in the last period.
We scored about a minute later to tie it up again….Then we score with 3 seconds left to win the game.

All in all I didn’t do too bad. I was huffing a bit and need to take water next time.
I had an assist and screened a goal. They asked me to come back next week, so I guess thats a good sign.

Hopefully I’ll get my legs and wind back before the season is over and score a few goals.

Now its sleep and shower time.

Women’s NCAA Hockey

Tuesday, March 29th, 2005

Why is there no checking in women’s hockey?

They wear the same padding, skate just as hard, and are just as tough (relatively) as the guys, why can’t they check? I think a good open ice hit should be allowed. If you have your head down, you should be obliterated. If you think you can skate the length of the ice near the boards, you should be creamed.

I like women’s hockey, its one of the few college women’s sports I have the attention span for. I think its missing something without checking.

Congrats to Minnesota for winning the NCAA Women’s Hockey Championship.
